Collections Specialist

Job Description

The Collections Specialist is responsible for managing accounts receivable and following up on unpaid or overdue balances related to healthcare services. This includes coordinating with patients, insurance providers, or clients to resolve billing issues and secure payment, while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and company standards.

Responsibilities

Monitor and manage assigned healthcare accounts for outstanding balances
Conduct outbound and receive inbound calls/emails to follow up on unpaid claims, patient balances, or client accounts
Coordinate with insurance providers and/or patients regarding billing and payment status
Negotiate payment arrangements or settlement options when necessary
Identify and resolve billing discrepancies, denied claims, or payment delays
Maintain accurate documentation of all collection efforts and communications
Generate reports on aging accounts and collection performance
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, company policies, and data privacy standards (e.g., HIPAA if applicable)
Work closely with internal teams such as billing, claims, and customer support

Minimum Qualifications

At least college level or Associate’s / Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred)
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Ability to handle sensitive patient or financial information with confidentiality and professionalism
Comfortable working in a fast-paced BPO environment
